When is the best season to install a new pool?

September 7, 2018

So, you’ve decided to “take the plunge” and give the kids what they’re always asking for, a new pool!  Now you may be wondering what is the best season for pool building.
Any good sales person will tell you NOW is the right time to build a pool because, just like most things in life, prices will invariably go up. However, most experts will tell you the best season to build a pool is the fall/winter.

You may find lower prices in the fall because of materials and equipment closeouts, or because companies are offering fall specials to stay busy with work. In addition, the work is much less brutal to the construction crews who, in most cases, work outside from sunup to sundown. Since pool construction destroys the yard, doing so in the fall leaves plenty of time to complete landscaping so that everything looks nice and lush for the spring. The downside is you may get tired of looking a pool you can’t swim in yet. In that case you may consider installing a pool heater to extend the swimming season by at least two months.  And there are usually incentives or rebates from your power company that you can take advantage of when installing energy efficient heaters or pumps. There are also tax advantages to building in the fall; you may be able to use the pool financing as a tax write off.

Many owners wait until the spring/summer because they just received holiday bonuses or tax returns. However, the schedules of the more popular builders will begin to fill up quickly, which could mean a longer wait to complete the pool. Again, since building a pool does a number on the yard, you will find the process puts your backyard out of commission for summer fun for up to three months.
