Panama City Beach – Cox Pools makes the list of “PSN Pool and Spa News” 2017 Top 50 Pool Builders. Cox Pools ranked fourteen, up from twenty-one last year.
The components in the ranking of pool
builders include revenue, staff, industry involvement, web presence, and
community involvement. In addition, each company was asked to reveal the best
new idea implemented in the past two years.
According to Joanne McClain, Editor In Chief of “Pool and Spa News,” stated there were a few themes that emerged capturing her attention when ranking the companies in this year’s 15th annual competition. “The first was the pursuit of efficiency. Many builders have implemented ways to streamline their businesses in all aspects of operations.”
Quite a few, including Cox Pools, have
found transformational software solutions that manage the business from initial
contact to warranty.
“In 2015-2016 we were very excited to put into full capacity our new web-based construction management software,” said Drew Schaarschmidt, co-owner. “The program is so advanced we can track sales lead all the way through to storing a job’s warranty information. I can log in and see all jobs and where they are in terms of building phases, manage my subcontractors, and track payments all in the cloud.”
What that means for business is greater efficiency. “I can be out on a jobsite and if a question comes up, I can quickly and easily access the proper files right on my smart phone without heading back to the office,” said Schaarschmidt.
Cox Pools needs efficiency when at any point they may have 230 pools under some phase of work. While a majority of Cox Pools’ business is derived from new pool construction, an increasing amount of work is performed renovating existing pools, an aspect of the pool building industry that sometimes gets overlooked. In 2016, Cox Pools ranked 6th in terms of pool renovation revenue alone.
“Pools, much like homes, need an update every decade or so. The plaster slowly deteriorates due to pool chemicals, and sometimes an owner just wants a different look to their pool,” said Schaarschmidt.
Staffing is an important facet of Top 50
judging. Cox Pools has 169 employees and an average tenure of 12 years. Their employees are all trained in the art of
plaster and shotcrete. Supervisors participate in annual conferences and earn
continuing education credits.
Among the other categories for judging,
Cox Pools was proud to report to PSN their community involvement; they
contribute annually to several worthy causes including The George Butchikas
Foundation for Autism, the Alys Beach Foundation, Girls, Inc. and numerous
local school sports boosters.
“With Cox Pools getting ready to celebrate our 60th Anniversary, we couldn’t be happier to make the Top 50 Pool Builder’s list again this year,” said Schaarschmidt.
